You can choose a different specialization alongside competitive swimming. Only the part 'guiding training sessions' will be assessed for that other specialization. You don't need to redo anything that overlaps with the protocol 'guiding training sessions for competitive swimming'. Typically, you only need to 'conduct lessons' and 'explain exercises'. Unlike the KNZB, the Reddingsbrigade Nederland requires a practical assessment. Therefore, in addition to the portfolio assessment, a practical assessment has been added.

Portfolio assessment protocol:
Within this task, you perform the following subtasks. First, the result is stated for each component:
1. Guides athletes during training sessions.
  • The results of this subtask are:
  • The guidance is tailored to the athletes. The guidance supports a positive learning environment.
  • Social and physical safety is ensured.
Points of attention include:
  • Adapts the approach to the athletes.
  • Uses clear and understandable language with the athletes.
  • Motivates, encourages, and enthuses the athletes.
  • Informs about sport-related matters such as sportswear, footwear, and equipment.
  • Monitors (and oversees) safety and acts in case of an emergency (accident).
  • Handles personal information confidentially in accordance with the guidelines.

2. Executes training sessions.
The results of this subtask are:
  • The training is tailored to the athletes in consultation with the responsible coach-trainer.
Points of attention include:
  • Executes the training preparation and/or follows the instructions of the responsible coach-trainer.
  • Ensures that materials and tools are available.
  • Ensures that the training is tailored to the athletes in consultation with the responsible coach-trainer.
  • Consults with the responsible coach-trainer.
  • Contributes to achieving the goal of the training.

3. Explains exercises
The results of this subtask are:
  • The exercise is understood by the participants.
  • The athletes experience and learn.
Points of attention include:
  • Chooses a position tailored to the exercise.
  • Makes oneself understood.
  • Tailors the explanation to the athletes.
  • Demonstrates exercises correctly or uses a good example.
  • Adjusts a training format if necessary based on the athletes and/or circumstances.
  • Provides instructions to the athletes in relation to the goal of the training format.
  • Checks if the athletes understand the assignments.

4. Evaluates training sessions and reflects on own actions
The results of this subtask are:
  • The evaluation focuses on the process and result of the training.
  • Self-reflection leads to insight into one's own skills and development areas in guiding training sessions.
Points of attention include:
  • Participates in the evaluation focused on the goal and the process.
  • Adheres to the professional code.
  • Seeks feedback.
  • Articulates own learning needs.
  • Consults knowledge sources/experts.
  • Reflects on own actions.

Whether you have performed your task well is assessed based on the points of attention specified for each task component.

Practice assessment protocol:
If you take a practical exam, the same protocol will be used.
